Keeping you safe at home
In April this year, a new law came into effect.
It means that landlords (like us) must make sure that anyone living in certain high-rise residential buildings who would need help to leave during a fire has a personal evacuation plan in place. This plan is called a Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (RPEEP).
The law applies to high-rise buildings that are seven storeys or more (or over 18 metres tall), and to some buildings that are over five storeys (or over 11 metres tall) where a full building evacuation strategy is in place.
Over the past few months, we’ve been contacting customers who live in these buildings to make sure they have an RPEEP in place if they need one.
Whilst the new legislation is targeted at those living in specific buildings, we're extending this offer to all our customers, so if you or someone in your household has a disability or a health condition and would need help to evacuate safely, please contact us.
We'll arrange to visit you and complete a Person-Centred Risk Assessment (PCRA), which considers individual circumstances, identifies support or arrangements that could be made to improve your safety in an emergency, as well as any challenges you might face during an evacuation, so we can put steps in place to help to keep you safe.
We will then work with you to develop the RPEEP that reflects your needs and helps you feel confident about what to do in an emergency.
