Talking money
Supporting our communities isn’t just about providing services – it’s about creating connections and making a real impact in people’s lives.
Helen Dexter, Retrofit Project Manager at Stonewater, shares more about workshops held to support communities in Dorset…
We know that supporting our communities is about more than just providing services. That’s why I was proud to join up with the teams at Dorset Mind and Dorset Citizens Advice to offer support and advice to local customers about saving money on energy bills, fuel poverty and the crucial link between financial stress and mental health.
It’s no secret that rising energy bills take a toll on both our wallets and our minds, creating a ripple effect that impacts many parts of life. Our workshops, which took place during Mental Health Awareness Week, aimed to empower customers to take control of their energy costs, while supporting their mental wellbeing.
Joining me was Anna from Correct Contract Services (CCS), who are one of our retrofit installers in Dorset. It was inspiring to see CCS stepping up, supporting the community they serve and donating to both Dorset Mind and Citizens Advice – a wonderful gesture.
Not having enough money to heat your home isn’t just a financial issue; it’s a mental health issue too. By providing practical advice on energy saving and offering a listening ear, we aimed to give people the tools they need to feel more in control, less stressed and better supported.
The Dorset Citizens Advice energy team have provided valuable training to our frontline retrofit team. We now hand out both Dorset Mind and Citizens Advice leaflets along with our retrofit brochure, helping to make sure our customers are aware of, and can access, the vital support and services available to them.
I’m excited to continue supporting my community through initiatives like this, where mental health and practical support come together to make a meaningful difference.
Thank you to everyone who came along, and a special shout-out to CCS for their generosity and partnership. Together, we can keep making a positive impact!
