Bell Group supporting communities and careers
Our contractor, Bell Group, has recently been involved in a range of activities that demonstrate the positive impact that collaboration can have across education, employment and improving communities.
Inspiring the next generation in Bridgwater
Bell Group recently attended a two-day careers event in Bridgwater that welcomed 42 schools and more than 1500 school and college students.
The event gave young people the opportunity to explore potential careers, ask questions and learn more about the wide range of opportunities (including apprenticeships) available in construction.
Connecting education and industry
Bell also took part in an Employer Engagement Session at South Hampshire College Group, where they spoke to 400 students about careers in construction.
Sessions like this really help to break down some of the outdated ideas people might have about the construction industry – for example, that the industry is low-skilled, only offers limited career options or isn’t a long-term career. In reality, there are lots of different roles, career paths and chances to learn new skills and progress.
They also help young people to get a better understanding of what skills they need; the different routes they can take to get into the industry and give them more confidence as they start thinking about their future careers.
Supporting people back into work
Bell recently teamed up with SPEAR at Christ Church Clifton in Bristol to run mock interview sessions for people looking to get back into work.
SPEAR supports people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, offering employment programmes, advice and ongoing support to help them move towards a more stable, independent future.
The sessions gave people a chance to practise real interview scenarios in a supportive setting, with helpful feedback along the way. It helped boost confidence and build the skills they need to take that next step back into work.
