Hello and welcome
"Stonewater is always looking forward and finding ways to make a positive difference."
Hello and welcome to our autumn edition of Here to Help.
Reflecting on the last few months, it’s certainly been an eventful summer, and not always for the best of reasons. The outbreak of riots across the country following the tragic deaths of three children in Southport in August was shocking to see. Violence and intolerance like this have no place in our society but, as disturbing the disorder was, it was equally heartening to see how so many local communities responded, with people coming together to reject such extremism with a very strong message of unity – and in far greater numbers too.
As an organisation, Stonewater is always looking forward and finding ways to make a positive difference. We’re proud to support our customers across all sections of society, including housing for refugees and offering specialist services like our South Asian Women’s Refuge in Bedford.
This kind of social ethos is evident in other ways too, whether it’s creating amazing public art through our annual Blunden Prize, planting our 30,000th tree in partnership with the Community Forrest Trust or celebrating the handover in Leeds recently of our 7000th new home. We’re also continuing to break new ground in supporting families experiencing overcrowding and retaining our Top 10 status in the Ethnicity Awards (as the only housing association to make the list) – it’s all part of our vision for everyone to have a safe and secure place to call home.
I hope you enjoy reading some of the great stories in this latest edition of Here to Help, and it helps us all to remember that there’s really far more that unites us than divides us.
